Virginia University of Oriental Medicine (www.vuom.edu) in Fairfax, Virginia is expanding, and recruiting faculty to fill a variety of teaching positions in Oriental Medicine, Acupuncture, Point locations, Herbology, Western Medicine, and clinic supervision.
We are seeking adjunct as well as part-time or fulltime faculty to join our team for theFall (October 5thstart) or Winter (January 3rd start) quarters. Classes and supervised clinic shifts are offered weekdays, weeknights and weekends. Salaries will be negotiated individually and depend on qualifications, teaching or supervisory experience, and time availability. Qualified candidates may also be considered for an administrative position as the Associate Academic Dean.
For all positions, candidates should haveat least five years of practice in Oriental Medicine and experience supervising clinical interns or teaching Oriental Medicine. Desired qualifications include training and / or practice in herbal formulas. Most importantly, we will work with the right people to provide training if necessary.
In addition to an interview, all prospective faculty candidates are asked to present a 20-minute class demonstration.
Clinic Supervisors are responsible for a 4.5-hour shift in our Student Intern Clinic, supervising up to five students during the shift. Experience as a clinical supervisor is highly desired but we will train the right person.Minimum requirements include:
1. Master degree in Oriental Medicine
2. License to practice in Virginia (this may be a 4-12 week process)
3. NCCAOM certification (Dipl in Oriental Medicine preferred, Dipl in Acupuncture may qualify if herbal training and clinical practice)
4. Fluent English
5. DAOM (Doctorate of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine) completed or near completion is a plus.
6. Experience with multi cultural students a plus.
7. 5 Years Experience
Oriental Medicine Faculty members serve as instructors our Oriental Medicine, Acupuncture, and Herbology Departments. Minimum requirements include:
1. Master degree in Acupuncture, or Oriental Medicine
2. NCCAOM (Dipl in Oriental Medicine) or NCCAOM (Dipl in Acupuncture)
3. Herbal education and practice is a plus.
4. Clinical courses involving needling require license to practice in Virginia
5. Fluent English
6. DAOM preferred (Doctorate of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine).
7. Experience with multi cultural students a plus
Western Medicine Department Faculty
1. Degree as Medical Doctor / MD, Chiropractor, Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Nursing PhD, or clinical doctorate
2. Terminal degree preferred
3. Experience with multi cultural students a plus.
4. Will be teaching any of the following subjects:
a. Anatomy & Physiology
b. Western Medical Terminology
d. Microbiology & Immunology
e. Western Internal medicine
f. Biochemistry & Nutrition
g. Western Physical Exam & Assessment
h. Orthopedic & Neurological Evaluation
i. Fundamentals of Pharmacology
j. Western Medical Diagnostic Tests
